Travel allows me to wander through the landscapes and towns that belong to other cultures. I am lucky enough to be there to sample the atmosphere and light without the worries of everyday life.

In the twisty streets of European towns, a centuries-old door or wall captures my imagination. By photographing it, I take it home with me and then share it with others. The light of a Tuscan dusk and the way it sculpts the hills thrills me. A Moslem pillar in Spain bends the light that bounces off the ages-old walls. Even modern forms can inspire me. These places tell us about time, stories, and what is important to the people that made them. They are not only the property of the past or their cultures—they speak to us today with the beauty of their forms.

“I have heard the singing in many places...I have heard it on misty migration nights when the dark has been alive with the high calling of birds. And on cold winter nights when the stars seem close enough to touch. I have discovered that I am not alone in my listening. That almost everyone is listening for something. That the search for places where the singing may be heard goes on everywhere.”
— Sigurd Olson

Many places in this world sing to me. These are just a few.
